Company | ALM & Associates

Formed in 1993, ALM & Associates, of Provo, Utah is a civil engineering and land development firm with 15-20 employees, all of which use @task. They have completed over 1,800 projects in the last 12 years, including local landmarks such as the Wells Fargo Building and the Shops at Riverwoods outdoor mall.

Foresight | Why We Chose @task

As our firm grew, we got to where we were managing thousands of projects. Document management, task management, and centralized executive intelligence were missing, and our volume was too great to track all of it without some kind of software solution. Our limitations were strangling us. At first, we tried tracking our workflow on paper and used Novell's Groupwise (an e-mail client similar to Outlook), which had a workflow feature. But Groupwise was never designed as a project management solution and couldn't handle the number of projects we were trying to manage through it. Our screens were just full of garbage.

When I first looked at different solutions, I thought something designed specifically for the construction industry would work, but nothing did what I wanted; we tried eProject, Vision, MS Project, and others. Customization was important to me, and I wanted the flexibility of adapting a solution to our way of doing business. @task could be custom fit to our company.

Hindsight | Why @task was the Right Choice

Before we implemented @task, our status meetings could go all day. Now we've eliminated our project status meetings and just discuss real problems and issues. @task allows employees at each level to access information critical to their function. All of our data is in one place—available and accessible to everyone who needs it. That means everyone sees what everyone else is doing. If our process has bottlenecks, everyone knows; and nobody wants to be the one who holds things up. If something isn't getting done, your co-workers are paying you visits to see why you haven't completed your work. Transparency translates to accountability.

Another benefit is that I really feel @task was designed with the right engine and that the company is aligned with our needs and in the direction we want to go. If we were to toss @task . . . our business would fail.
